Be a Part of our Gardnerville Family Heritage Cookbook

Main Street Gardnerville’s latest fund-raising project is to develop and publish a Gardnerville Heritage Cookbook. This book will be much more than just a cookbook. It will contain copies of photos and original documents as well as diary excerpts, store or business ledger pages, newspaper articles and many other items that will retell Gardnerville’s past. If your family has owned a business or lived in Gardnerville for two or more generations, you can be a part of the retelling of Gardnerville’s history.

Cookbook Criteria

Cookbook

**A family member must have owned a business in downtown Gardnerville or been a resident of Gardnerville for at least two or more generations (approximately 50 years.)

**Recipes, photos, and original documents (such as property deeds, diary excerpts, store or business ledger pages, bill of sale, newspaper articles, post cards, letters, family trees, household or business bills, hotel bill, menu from the family restaurant, etc.) must have been created and/or handed down by at least a second generation family member. They can be in the original hand of the cook, written in another family members hand or they can be in print. A history of how the recipe was developed or a fond memory associated with the recipe could be included.

**Photos can be of the family business, the family home, family members or an event.

**Other items of interest: hand written memos, stories about your family such as how they came to the area, how your parents met, a fond memory of your childhood.

Don’t limit yourself to what we have described above. Use your imagination. If you think of something that hasn’t been mentioned and feel it would be of interest to our readers, please submit it for consideration.

The purpose of this book is to create a history of Gardnerville, of its residents and their families. We want a person to be able to get a feel for what is was like to live and work in Gardnerville many, many years ago.

Contact Paula Lochridge, 775.782.8027, to make an appointment to bring your contributions into the office or to make other arrangements. Any material that is submitted will be copied or scanned into our files and returned.  Feel free to call us with any ideas, comments or questions regarding this project. We look forward to being able to share our heritage cookbook with each other and with those that come to visit our town.

Main Street Gardnerville introduces our first pewter keepsake ornamenOrnamentt!

The series will feature a different place from the heart of downtown Gardnerville each year.

This 2009 ornament is a rendition of Heritage Park by local artist Becky Stockwell.

These limited edition ornaments are just $10.00 each. Not only are these a great gift idea, but they are sure to quickly become a collector's item. Only 500 ornaments originally available... with only a few hundred left.

You can still purchase these one of a kind ornaments at the Main Street Gardnerville offices, located at 1407 Main Street.

benchThe Design Committee of Main Street Gardnerville is hard at work on plans for the beautification of our downtown area.   This summer, in addition to hanging flower baskets and placing flowerpots on the sidewalks, the Main Street Gardnerville program hopes to install more decorative metal benches to accommodate and encourage pedestrians along the main street corridor of Gardnerville.

Thanks to several sponsorships, MSG already has four benches placed throughout the downtown district.  Each bench was sponsored for different reasons:  the one at the Historian Inn was sponsored by Robin Bernhard in honor of his mother, Peggy; one is a memorial bench in honor of Joan Johnston Hubbard and is located at the Record Courier Center; another is located and in support of a local business, Sharkey’s Casino; and the fourth bench is near the Town Hall for the Town of Gardnerville.

These benches can be sponsored by a service group, business or by an individual/family.   Each bench will have a plaque affixed to it, honoring your service club, business or individual/family.  The one-time cost is $1,000 per bench plus shipping.

Main Street Gardnerville is a 501 (c) 6 corporation.  Your sponsorship may be deductible as a business expense; contact your tax professional.   Main Street Gardnerville is an equal opportunity provider.

For more information, please contact Paula Lochridge, Main Street Gardnerville Program Manager at 775.782.8027 or info@mainstreetgardnerville.org.
